Daily Dose #4

If you haven't noticed yet how much I've been loving matte eye shadows as of late, then please take note now. I have been loving my newly acquired Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette and thought I'd show everyone how I've been wearing it.

When I have been reaching for matte eye shadows, I like to add shimmer or sheen everywhere else. I have been reaching for my Nars Cheek Palette, which I used today. Laguna was added into the hollows of the cheek, followed by Orgasm to the apples of my cheeks, and finishing off with Albatross as my highlight.

I also have been using a few new products that I've picked up other than the eyeshadow palette. Two new base products have been doing wonders. Mac Face and Body in N1 and White make it so I'll never have a horrid foundation line again, as most foundations are too dark. I also have been getting along with the Nars Creamy Concealer, which at first I wasn't fond of. Lastly to adhere all my new eye shadows to my lid, I upgraded my Urban Decay Primer Potion, with the Nars Pro-Prime!

Summer Nail Polish Picks

Summers almost to an end, but I wanted to share all of the nail polishes that I've been loving for the past three months. I tend to gravitate towards brighter shades and pastels, in the warmer months and usually  half way through winter they still get thrown into the mix. I really had to work hard to narrow down my nail polishes even to 10; but I realized I had a lot of nail polishes that looked extremely similar to other shades and there was only a slight different.

Weekly Dose #22

Standout Product: Last week I picked up the new Lancome Gloss In Love's, and if you haven't read my post about them, I am in love with them! The post is here if you want to know more about them or the shades I picked up!

Disappointing Products: Speaking of posts, I talked about how I was a bit disapointed with the shades Nars put in there newest palette, Fairy's Kiss.

Best Read: I've still been loving a lot of matte makeup, and Estee who writes at essiebutton's about her matte face, has fueled my want to grab a few extra shimmer-free products.

Recent Purchases: Nails Inc. nail polishes in Topping Lane, Pudding Lane, Cherry Road, Kensington Palace Gardens, St. James Park and Haymarket. Nails Inc. nail polishes in Eternal Optimist, Mod Square, Full Steam Ahead, Carry On, The Girls Are Out, Chinchilly and Midnight Cami.

Wish List Additions: After I went on vacation, I had a big list of everything I wanted to grab, but realized I ended up forgetting the Dior Nude BB Cream and the BB Eye Cream, Hopefully I'll grab them soon!

Nars Fairy's Kiss

Nars has recently come out with two new limited edition eyeshadow palettes from their Gifting Collection 2013 which consists of a makeup bag, and two new palettes that contain popular Nars shades and one limited edition shade in each palette. The two palettes are; Fairy's Kiss ($45) which I picked up, and Rise Up To The Moon ($45) a palette more in the gold and green tones. Both are beautiful palettes, but the gold shades in Rise Up To The Moon don't work well for my skin tone, so I wouldn't have used at least a third of them.

Like all Nars eye shadows (with the exception of a few) they are great quality. There is fantastic pigmentation and they are easy to blend together without turning muddy. I particularly love the shade Brousse, described as a black violet, and Kalahari, a sugared coca, which I already own in another palette.

Something I wish that they would have added into this palette is a highlight shade. For some, Monosque could be a highlight, but you would have to be deeper that a MAC NW 45 (roughly) for it to do so. Monosuqe is actually the limited edition shade for this palette, and since they had to create the shade, it would have made more sense for it to be lighter. For myself, being lighter than a NW 15 I could use Monosque as a crease shade, and am finding myself reaching for eye shadows outside of this palette to complete my eye makeup.
Monosque was used all over the lid, Brousse was applied into the crease and under the lover lashes, and Pandora was applied in the outer 'V' and along the lash line.

What is your favourite shade from the palette? Would you pick up Fairy's Kiss?

Lancome Gloss In Love

Lancome Gloss in Love in #391, #146, #341
Sometimes a product comes along that you can't help but tell everyone about. This is definitely one of those products. Some of you may already know that I am not a lip gloss person, but there are a few glosses that I do love. For most people, the Clarins Instant Light Lip Glosses are on a pedestal, or at least they used to be...

Lancome has recently come out with there new Gloss In Love's, and oh my, am I in love! They have the most amazing formula, if you are familiar with the Clarins glosses, they are very similar, but have much more pigmentation. They are slippery one the lips, almost like silicone, but there is no sign of stickiness anywhere.

The longevity is really nice. They stay on the lips for about three hours, and start to wear off after that. Even after 5 hours I can still feel them on my lips, but the high gloss has worn off as well as most of the color.

Another feature that is very impressive for these lip glosses is the wand. To 'eject' the wand, you press the square on the tube of the lip gloss, and it pops up. You can also just pull the wand if you don't like useless fantastic features like that. The wand is concave to fit perfectly to the shape of your bottom lip, while applying the perfect amount of lip gloss. The top, convex, side works to apply the product easily to the top lip, and it does exactly that. I really hope that more brands take note of this bad boy.
What shade is your favourite?

Weekly Dose #21

Standout Product: Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua has been sitting in the back of my drawer for some time now, as I hadn't liked what it did for my skin. But recently I've noticed when people talk about it they say the best way to use it is with the fingers, as a brush doesn't do it justice. I had always used it with a brush, like most of my foundations, but switching to my fingers gave such a flawless look! I've still been trying to keep my fingernails in good shape, but my cuticles have been making everything look gross. I recently picked up the Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream, and it has been making my hands look quite healthy. It is very hydrating and sinks into the skin fast. I have high hopes for this one!

Disappointing Product: New to my collection is Essie's Marshmallow, a sheer white. I've been wanting this one for quite some time, but twice now that I've applied it, it becomes streaky. Hopefully there is something I'm doing wrong, or I can find a similar shade with a better formulation, because I love the color.

Recent Purchases: Lancome Gloss In Love in the shades: #149#391 and #341

Best Read: I don't always get around to shopping at Mac, but I've recently picked up a few items and been playing around with my palette. I came across Milly who writes at Pearls & Poodles post about her Mac Eyeshadow Quad, and am now lusting after every single one, except Nylon, which I already own.

Wish List Addition: The Rimmel Salon Pro Nail Polishes that everyone has been raving about over in the UK are now across the pond, and I now have my eye on a couple shades. Payday, come soon.

Vacation in Pictures

Some of you may have known that I went away on Vacation for 10 Days a few weeks ago, and I thought I might share a few pictures from the trip! I drove down to the West Coast where I grew up and camped at the campsite I went every year when I was younger. I spent a day in downtown Vancouver, and headed to Banff and Jasper National Park, which is the most beautiful place I have ever been. We made it a point to stop at the bigger tourist areas, including the famous Lake Louise! Hope you enjoy! xx

Daily Dose #3

With winter coming soon - September we usually get a snowfall! - I've been rotating my foundation wardrobe of sheer bases, before the full coverage bottles come out to play. I've been getting a little tired of the BB/CC Cream hype, but that doesn't mean there aren't some gems out there. One of my favourites I've come across is the CC Cream by Clinique. I LOVE that this comes in a light enough shade for me, while still giving enough coverage to cover my redness.

I like to go one of two ways when it comes to sheer bases. I either like to keep everything minimal, or add a punch to one aspect of my makeup. Today, it was lips! I went for the Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick in Neoclassic Coral. Its a bright red coral, but I added a thicker than normal layer of lip balm underneath to make it more sheer.

These lipsticks are being discontinued at the moment, but at Shoppers Drug Mart, the Exceptional Lipsticks are discounted to the price of $6!

I always have a difficult time deciding what blush to wear with bright lipsticks such as red, or coral, and I think I've found a pretty decent one, Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed. It is a nude blush that I find is a hybrid between a blush and bronzer.

Eyes were kept very simple. I pulled out my Stila In The Know pallet and used two shades; Wind, for a light wash of nude on the lid, and then used Driftwood to define my eyebrows. Using one of my favourite mascaras, Lancome Definicils, I defined my eyes. I get such long lashes and they give great separation.

Clinique CC Cream in Very Light // Stila Perfecting Concealer in A // Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in Light // Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Exposed // Jack Black Lip Balm in Natural Mint // Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick in Neoclassic Coral // Stila In The Know Palette // Lancome Definicils Mascara

Weekly Dose #20

Standout Product: After my holidays, my skin had been acting up and had become a little spotty. I decided to put my new foundation purchases aside and use Revlon Nearly Naked which I knew wouldn't irritate my skin while still giving my skin a flawless healthy glow.

Disappointing Product: Speaking of recent purchases, I picked up the Nars Creamy Concealer and either I haven't learnt how to use it properly, or it just doesn't work well under my eyes. The upside is that it works phenomenally well everywhere else except for the under eye area.

Recent Purchases: Essie Nail Polish in Marshmallow and a few shades from the Naughty Nautical Collection in Rock The Boat, Full Steam Ahead and The Girls Are Out.

Best Read: As of late I've been wanting to do a complete make over of a few areas in my house, and I've been looking everywhere for inspiration. I've really been loving the 'At Home With...' section of A Beautiful Mess.

Wish List Addition: You might have noticed that I've been on a nail polish binge for the last few days as the only thing I've purchased is four bottles of Essie Nail Polish, but that doesn't stop me from wanting more. I haven't seen the Essie Bridal Collection on the shelves yet, but I am really lusting after it. I'll have to do a bit of online shopping soon!

Breakfast For You And Your Skin

While preparing your morning meal, take a little extra time for some at home beauty remedies.

Face Mask

A mixture of oatmeal, honey and yogurt left on the face for 5 minutes not only feels amazing, but it has benefits for every skin type. Oatmeal will help soften your skin and soothe sensitive or inflamed skin. Honey is one of my favourite natural ingredients for hydration and aids in the skins healing process. Lastly yogurt, which also hydrates the skin, but works as a natural dark spot corrector to lighten any pigmentation.

Cold Compress

After steeping your tea, instead of throwing out the tea bags, try putting them in the fridge to cool down. Applying the cold tea bags to your eyes will help take away any unwanted puffiness, and treat dark circles. If you have no eye concerns, you can also use the tea bags to help soothe sunburns or razor burns.

Lip Exfoliator

Mixing sugar and honey together is a trick I'm sure we are all aware of, and is one of our favourites. You can also mix it up and make it work for your needs. A few ideas would be to replace the sugar with cinnamon would create a plumping lip scrub, or replace the honey with yogurt.

Weekly Dose #19

Standout Product: While on vacation, the one thing I religiously used was sunscreen. I always turn towards my trusty Kiehls Super Fluid SPF 50, and have never been burnt when I use it. Atop of protecting my skin from any UVA/UVB rays, it also feels lightweight and works amazing under makeup.

Disappointing Product: Also while on vacation, I continued trying out a mascara that had been recommended to me several times, Kiss Me Mascara, that didn't hold up to what I was hoping. The product holds up with a few tears, but when you dive into a lake the 'tube' like mascara falls off and flakes all over my face.

Recent Purchases: Vacation time, means vacation buys; Mac Face & Body Foundation in C1 and White, Mac Lipstick in Plumful and Crosswires, Buxom Lip Cream in Creamsicle, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light, Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Wear Primer, Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, Caudalie Hand & Nail Cream, Nars Eyeshadow Palette in Fairy Kiss, Nars Pro Prime, Nars Radient Creamy Concealer in Chantilly, Bobbi Brown Extra SPF 25 Tinted Moisturizing Balm in Extra Light, Ojon Volume Advance Shampoo and Conditioner.

Best Read: In case you don't know who Victoria is, she runs a blog called In The Frow, and it just so happens that while I was away, and didn't read a ton of posts, I happened to click on one of her recent posts about her trek through America, and that just a week or so prior she was driving through the same route (Vancouver to Banff) and went to the same tourist attractions as I was headed to. It's such a small world.

Wish List Addition: Since I've recently overcome my fear of fake tanning my face, I've started to wish for foundations where the lightest shade wasn't light enough for me. Hello, Rimmel Wake Me Up!

Eau de Summer

Summer is in full swing, and that means those deep scents are pushed to the back of the fragrance drawer, and the summer scents are brought forward. The summer scents are paired perfectly with a fresh lemonade, your toes in the sand, and the sun shining bright. Here are the scents I've been reaching for most days...

My perfect everyday fragrance, that smells exactly like the ocean I grew up near.

Prep School

Aside from a good skincare regime, nothing will make your makeup look better or last longer than some good prep products. I feel that I finally have my prep wardrobe worked out for every possible skincare need. Here is my round up....

Stila Face The Day Moisterizer: A moisterizer is the first step to makeing everything else you add on top look fresh. The Face The Day moistorizer is my top choice these days. The gel texture means fast absorbtion so you don't have to stand around for what feels like an hour for it to sink in. It's impressive list of ingredients include Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamins A, C & E, and pepperment oil for a relaxing scent that's ideal for sensitive skin.

Hydraluron: The cult serum buzzing around these days, and for a good reason. Hyaluronic Acid is the second ingredient, and gives you immediate results. Dry patches are kept at bay, and your overall skin tone looks greatly improved. Using this every morning will keep your skin hydrated and plump. Who wouldn't want that?

Stila One Step Correct: This lightweight gel textured primer corrects any skin tone problems you might be concerned with. This isn't a miracle worker, but it does even out the skin slightly to help conceal the problem areas. The three colour correcting swirls include green, to even out redness, purple, to correct sallow skin, and peach, to smooth out an uneven skin tone.

Guerlain Meteorites Perles Light Diffusing Perfecting Primer: Guerlains primer version of their meteorite powder is perfect for adding a subtle glow to the skin. The pearls get compressed and create small light reflecting particles that are mixed in with the gel primer. The effect is not sparkely at all as some might expect, but perfectly unditectable.

Benefit Porefessional: If large pores are the issue, look no further than the Porefessional. The silicone primer glides over pores creating an even surface for makeup. I've never experienced blocked pores when using this product. The primer can also be used on it's own, but to get the full effect I prefer using a foundation over top.

What is your favourite primer?
