My Make Up: Smokin' Taupe

Being back home means mountains of snow. Luckily it makes for really nice photo backgrounds. It has been quite chilly lately, as we've plummeted to the -30's and as I don't go out side unless I have to, I have a lot of free time to play with makeup, which means more 'My Make Up' posts! I wanted to show you one of the combinations I wore lately.

I started off with Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, which is a really nice match for my skin tone, and leaves it looking, well, healthy. It has good coverage, but it doesn't look heavy in the slightest, which makes it one of my favorite foundations I've been using recently. I added contour to my face with my trusty Le Metier De Beaute Eyeshadow in Clay, still the best shade for my skin color I've tried. I have had a sample size of the Make Up For Ever HD Powder sitting in my drawer for awhile, so I thought I'd use it up. I'm actually really loving it, but hopefully not enough where I need to buy it, I have to many as it is. The Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Tough as Taupe is one I've always had, but never seemed to find a good way to use it. I always used the Color Tattoos on their own, but layering other eye shadows on top of Tough as Taupe, really made me actually like it. The particular eye shadows I love layering atop Tough as Taupe is the Nars Eyeshadow Duo in Kalahari, as it intensifies the color really well. I finished everything off with a favorite my-lips-but-better shade with silver glitter, Dior Addict Lipstick in Rose Deshabille.

Nail Care Routine

I've really been putting a lot of effort into keeping my nails healthy and strong. That means constant upkeep and time. Every second or third day, I will take the time at night to give my self a lengthy manicure. In between removing cuticles, filing, painting them, as well as gawking at episodes of Dexter, it takes me about two hours. A long time I know, but it is seriously relaxing for me.

I take off the reminiscence of my last manicure, and start fresh. I put on a thick coating of Sally Hansens Instant Cuticle Remover, which I've really been loving, and wait about 5 minutes; even though the recommended time is 15 seconds. After the cuticle remover does its magic, I use my Revlon Cuticle Tool to push back my cuticle beds, and with the opposite end, I clean underneath my nails. Filing comes next. I use two different types of nail files, A Revlon File-N-Smooth which files one way and smooths the other, when I need to change the length or shape, and an Essie Glass Nail File, which I use the most often to just lightly file my nails in between polish changes. Not pictured, but and important step, is a Sephora Nail Buffer, which I do once a month to keep my nails smooth, and for polish to stay on longer.

After my nail maintenance is finished, the fun part comes. For a base coat and treatment, I've been using OPI's Nail Envy, a new addition which I'm on the fence about, as I haven't seen much in results, but I'm giving it more time. After two coats of that, I apply a nail shade of choice, and top it off with the best top coat I've ever come across, Seche Vite. Once everything is set and dry, I rub my Dior Cuticle Cream onto every finger, relax and enjoy my freshly painted nails.

All of my manicure items get placed in a Coach Wristlet so they are easy to grab, and are kept in my night stand table.

What do you use to keep your nails looking good? I'd love to know!!

My Make Up: (Eye)liner

Have you ever looked at your eye colour really close? The colours in my iris are some of my favourite colours - lucky me! I love earth tones, and the mix of rich brown, gold and forrest green I look at every morning make me feel extremely beautiful. It really is the small things like that, I find most attractive! I matched up the colours of my eyes to makeup to surround them. Brown grazes the top lashes, and green defines the bottom, while gold highlights the inner corners. I complimented the eye look with natural shades, a soft champagne on my eyelids, and blushing pinks on my cheeks and lips. Normally I go with opposite colours to enhance my eye colour, like purple, but I'm loving how this makeup brings out the multiple colours in my iris!
On My Face:

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation in 51
Stila Convertable Color in Gerbera
Make Up For Ever HD Powder
Gosh Velvet Touch Eye Primer
Maybelline Eyestudio Color Explosion in Caffeine Rush
Smashbox Cream Eyeliner Palette in Metallic
L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black
Mac Lipstick in Creme Cup

What colours do you have in your eyes? Have you ever tried this technique? Let me know!

My Make Up: Neon Lips

Whenever it's overly gloomy, I like to try and reverse it by bringing out bright lipstick. Pictures don't give the colour justice at all, and it looks less bright than it doesn't in person. I didn't want to have my foundation heavy, as I find it makes me look overdone when I have any bold makeup on. I turned towards my Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation as its formulation is sheer and natural and Lancome Eclat Miracle underneath to brighten my skin. Bobbi Brown Corrector gets applied to my under eyes as it does almost always does. Since the lip colour I'm wearing is matte, I know that it will cling to every single dry area on my lips, luckily Nuxe Reve De Miel lip balm keeps that from happening. Lips were lined with Stila Lip Liner in Obsessed and covered with Stila Long Wear Lip Liner in Exhilarating. Simple cat eyeliner was my choice to enhance the look, using Too Faced 3-Way Liner to get into the depths of my lashes. My lashes got coated with my favourite curl holding and lengthening mascara Lancome Definicils. For the final touch, a very light dusting of Benefit Bella Bamba to the cheeks.
Do you like bold lips? Do you go bright or dark? Let me know!

Hi Everyone!

It's been slightly quiet on Blush Bug lately, but it won't be forever I promise. I've moved once again, back to my hometown. It was a quick decision as my seasonal job in Vancouver ended. While I wish I could have stayed, it was way to expensive to stay. My boyfriend and I moved down while he was going to school, but it began to cost more than we were expecting. It wasn't like we were going broke, but we were unable to save enough money to feel comfortable. After he is finished school in about 3 years, we want to be able to start a new chapter in our life together. We hope to buy a house, new vehicles, and start a family; which means the savings account can't be empty. We are hoping it works out for the best!

So right now, I'm taking a couple days to get settled, and spend the last few days I have with him before he heads back to Vancouver. I hope you all don't mind!

Because it was a quick decision to move, I didn't have time to schedule any posts. I'll be back soon with more posts, but until then, leave me any post requests in the comments if there's something that you'd like to see.

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

xx, Ashley

My Make Up: Summer In The Snow

I haven't been doing all too dramatic makeup the past couple of weeks. I've been sticking to defining makeup, which is what I almost always wear, in the summer. When winter comes, I usually darken it up, but either springs come early - really early, or I just haven't been in the mood. Considering it snowed this week, I'm leaning towards probably not being in the mood. Anyways, here's what I've been applying most days.

Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel
I don't normally wear this, as It's strictly for the summer when I have a tan. Instead of wearing this over makeup like I normally do, I applied it under my makeup (how it is actually supposed to be use) for a little experiment. I was happy to notice that I didn't look orange at all!

Nars Sheer Glow in Siberia
The closest match to my skin tone right now, so I've been using this almost every day. I've ran out of my Touche Eclat foundation, which I can't justify buying right now.

Bobbi Brown Corrector in Porcelain Bisque
My saviour when I haven't gotten sleep. I've been sick, my boyfriends been sick, between it all, I haven't had the greatest sleep these days. Tip: this works great around the nose to hide the redness!

Guerlain Blush 4 Eclats 05
A peachy hue that isn't completely perfect for my skin tone. Although it's beautiful and I'm sure if you're darker that me it would look beautiful. To be honest, I spent $60 on it, and I won't let it sit at the back of my drawer being waster.

Mac Retrospeck
The prettiest natural-but-unique shade I own was swiped across my entire lid and in my inner corner.

Chanel Fauve
One of my favourite eye shadows I own, the purple taupe was applied in my outer corner

Clairins Instant Light Lipgloss
For a girl that doesn't like lipgloss, I use this one all the time. I would even go as far as saying it has converted me?! Either way, this apricot shade leaves your lips hydrated with a hint of colour. I should also mention that my lips are still slightly red from the stain I wore yesterday, so my lip colour doesn't reflect the actual results.

I also had on Smashbox Photoready Primer which I have really been loving, and Clinique High Impact Mascara

Purple Glitter Gradient

Purple is one of my favourite colours, I can't even guess how many shades of purple nail polish I have. I used to of my countless colours to create a look that I completely love. Gradient nails are everywhere, and even though I've done a few manicures using gradient, a glitter version is my favourite.

I used two coats of Sweet Hook from China Glaze, a milky lilac and topped it off with way too many layers (approximately 8) of Nicole by OPI's Gone Wishin', a purple and teal multi-glitter.

Now I'm just hoping this lasts a long time, because I'm dreading removing it. I love glitter, but try to avoid it as much as possible.

All Oiled Up

Hydration is something I've always seemed to need help with. I never seem to have enough moisture anywhere, body, face and hair. The obvious solution is to hydrate, as well as some exfoliation, but that will be left for a later time. When it comes to hydration, I'm quite lazy. I would rather spend the extra 10 minutes in a robe and pajama pants than doing a routine. The products I actually use have to work really well, be easy and convenient to use.

L'Occitane Huile De Douche Shower Oil
The most recent addition. After Jayne from Cosmetic Proof kept telling me how amazing the shower oil was, and every review I read raved about it, I was convinced I needed it. Everyone was correct, this hydrates my skin and smells amazing. I could feel a difference in my skin immediately. It's enough hydration for me every day, and if I'm feeling extra dry, I use my Kiehls Creme De Corps Whipped Body Butter.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse
A multipurpose oil you can use on your body, hair or face, but I only tend to use it on my body. The days where I don't take a shower, and am unable to use my Shower Oil, I turn to this. It's extremely convenient because it is a spray, which makes application a dream. It's fast absorbing and leaves a really nice sent while not being greasy on the skin since it is a dry oil.

The Body Shop Coconut Oil Hair Shine
I use this after I'm finished styling my hair, and apply it only to the ends. I'm left with healthier looking hair. This is a hard oil that becomes liquid once you warm it up in your fingers, it also has slight shimmer to it that gives the hair shine. The scent of coconut lingers lightly in the hair, so if you don't like the coconut scent, I wouldn't give this a try.

Kiehls Color Protectant Shine Infusing Oil Treatment
Also being a new addition, I haven't tested it too much. This has SPF 10 so I love that I am getting protection from the sun. It's very lightweight which works perfectly in my fine hair, but I can also put it close to the scalp without becoming greasy. I've been enjoying it so far, and has great potential.

Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate
This is the show stopper. I can honestly say that this has changed my skin. After the first try I knew I would never be able to have a skin routine without it. My skin is no longer feeling rough, but soft, and spots I have are reduced and my redness is calmed. If you are able to, I strongly urge you try a sample.

What are your favourite oils? How do you prefer to hydrate your skin? Let me know!

Becca Beach Tints: Fig & Watermelon

Becca has finally arrived at Sephora, well kind of. They have a wide range of products online but unfortunately not inside of any of the Vancouver stores I've been too. They do have two mini Beach Tints, 4mL each and a full size is 7mL, for $24. Inside were two shades, Fig a muted rose, and Watermelon a bright pink

Becca says that Beach Tints are 'A créme stain that tints lips and cheeks with a natural wash of color.'

Both of these sheer out to be very blendable and luckily they stay put all day and are water resistant. I've used both of the shades, and I do prefer Watermelon. Fig unfortunatly doesn't show up on my skin, and even though I'm sure that is the point, it's not up my ally.

While these work amazing on the cheeks, but when they are on the lips they get slightly tacky, and that's a feeling that bothers me.

Overall, I really enjoyed using these, they give you the effortless no-makeup look. I'll be looking into more of the cheek tints, but hopefully I can also get my hands on more Becca products, such as the Eye Tints and Shimmering Skin Perfectors.

Winter Blues

I love blue for winter, it reminds me of the crisp winter air, snow and everything that allows me to be in fuzzy pyjamas, big scarves and a mug of hot chocolate in my hands for months straight. I threw together my favourite blue's for you, which range from subtle to bold, light to dark. A blue for every occasion.

Deborah Lippmann - I Know What Boys Like
Described as a 'Playful Periwinkle' and is the most beautiful mix of blue and purple that is perfect if you can't decide what colour to wear.

Ciate - Power Dressing
A deep blue navy that looks classic on the nails. I love this for when you don't want to look like you're wearing black on the nails.

Essie - Bobbing For Baubles
Similar to Power Dressing, as it is a dark navy, but it has a hint of grey to it. It is also a darker than Power Dressing.

Essie - Butler Please
A bright blue, even though it is bright, it's perfect for winter. This shade is limited edition for winter.

Essie - Bangle Jangle
The lightest and most subtle shades of blue in my collection. It is perfect for an office job, or if you don't want your nails to be the main focus, while still wearing an unique colour.

Do you like blue nail polish? What is your favourite blue to wear? Let me know!

Another Wish List

All of you are such enablers. Whether it's in comments, twitter or just amazing reviews I've read, my wish list just keeps growing. If you've seen my other wish lists over the past couple of months, I haven't gotten around to purchasing really any of it. You can probably imagine how long wish list is. I try not to repeat too many products, or else I'd have a million products you'd have to scroll through.

Urban Decay Naked Nail Set - $30
I'm in love with the Naked collection from Urban Decay, as are most people, but the new, sadly, limited edition nail polish set had me swooning after I saw swatches here.

Illamasqua Nail Duo - $32
Speaking of nails, I really can never have enough so why not try a brand I haven't used before. I've been eyeing up Illimasaqa nail polishes for quite some time, and the teal colour is beautiful; I also can't pass up a glitter. Luckily this is actually on sale at the moment for $23.

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil - $24
I walk past a L'Occitane store most days, and I always eye up this particular product. I've talked about this before, but I still think an shower oil is perfect for my lazy tush.

Hourglass Eyeshadow Duo in Exhibition - $44
Since trying my first Hourglass eyeshadow a few weeks ago, I've been convincing myself that I need to get my hands on another. They have the best butter texture, but you can read my review of my previous Duo if you're interested.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette - $32
I wasn't excited about this at all, until everyone started reviewing it, adding it to their favourites and creating beautiful looks with it. My wallet mind says I don't need it, but my heart does; isn't there a saying about following your heart? Well, don't mind if I do.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer - $60
While everyone was going out dancing and staying up late during New Years Eve, many had posted that they were wearing this primer. Supposedly it's the best for keeping your makeup on all night and keep the oils at bay, well, that obviously needs to be mine. I can be seriously lacking in the oil control area after a long day.

Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisterizing Balm - $56
You've probably heard of Estee from Essie Button before right? Well, she's has the most amazing taste in products, and I am dying to get my hands on the tinted moisturizing balm because of her. Hopefully this will help with my end of day flaky skin, fingers crossed! I have heard rumours that this is being discontinued, I'll be very sad if that's true.

Sephora Hair Turban - $26
I need this because I need more cuddles. After I have a shower at night, it becomes very difficult for my boyfriend to come close to me at the chance of getting wet. I have yet to master having my hair in a towel after 20 years, it always falls over and I become frustrated. I feel like this will be my perfect solution.

Please, don't tell me what's on your wish list, I can already feel the hole in my pocket burning. JUST KIDDING! Please tell me, I am quite curious what you've been wanting! Have you tried anything I mentioned? If so, let me know!

A New Found Love

I've always have had trouble finding a bronzer for my almost white skin, but I think the heavens dropped a miracle in my hands with this one. I was roaming around Winners like I normally do when I don't have anything better to do, and I came across this beauty.

I haven't spent too much time at the Le Metier De Beaute counter, but I do know that a lot of people like them, and well they are expensive. When I saw the normally priced $30 eyeshadow, priced down to $18 I grabbed it fast. I got the shade Clay that I wouldn't normally gravitate to.
When I swatched the shade, I knew it was going to be the perfect shade a contour. It had the slightest tinge of green so there was no way of me looking orange.

I've been using this every day for a couple weeks now, and I am so impressed with the outcome. I get the most natural shadow that I could have ever dreamed of.

I wouldn't be surprised if you see this in many upcoming posts. I'm kind of a lot in love.

The First

The first day of 2012 and the first personal type of post on my blog. I wouldn't expect too many of these because I feel bad asking my boyfriend to take most of the pictures for me. He's a trooper though, and puts up with the perfectionist in me. Just imagine "no, I don't like those, I look grumpy, lets do some more, please!" pretty much the whole day. Sigh. We didn't do too much today, we pretty much spent the day together, and relaxed.
I started out my morning making a Chai Tea Latte and catching up on some of my favorite blogs. Vanity Rouge is the blog on my iPad in case you were wondering; I highly recommend it! I also was able to paint my nails, while my boyfriend, Jeff, was studying for a test when classes started again. The design is inspired my Tiffany D and Vivianna Does Makeup that I had been meaning to do for ages but never found the patience or time, it's really quite hard to come by these days. I used Dior Purple Mix and Ciate Ladylike Luxe.

We grabbed some lunch since we woke up around 11 o'clock - that's the teenager in me still. Leftovers from New Years Eve's array of appetizers were munched on between laughing at scenes from the Big Bang Theory.

We took a long walk with our Miniature Dachshund  Josie down to the pier by our place. Even though it looks pitch black, it really was only about 3pm but the fog was extremely heavy by the river. Gave a rather creepy look to the area don't you think?

After our walk we headed downtown for some dinner. It's not something we normally do, but it's a special occasion. At least, that was our excuse. We went to Red Robin, a pretty popular gourmet burger place in Canada, I especially love them for their milkshakes. You get a full refill for your milkshake, for a ice cream anything lover like myself, it's just dandy!
After dinner we headed home and took another walk down to the pier, it's one of our favorite places and we feel so privileged to live by it. We started to have quite a bit of fun snapping pictures of each other. Jeff was taking some pictures of my for the ye'old blog, until I looked behind me and saw the sweetest sight of an older gentleman looking up at the stars and I quickly snapped a picture. Jeff and I loved it so much that we decided to replicate the photos with ourselves, since the background was so breath taking.
The older gentleman looking up at the stars
Myself, and a little heart for you guys! <3
We ended the night, walked home and snuggled up with Josie and watched Goldeneye. Perfect day in my eyes. Days like these are what I cherish the most.

Do you guys like these personal posts? If so, I'll try my best to get a some in every couple of months.

xx, Ashley
