Do The Bright Thing

Neons and brights are such a big trend right now. I did a post about nail trends here that included neons if you're interested. I love embracing bright shades in summer, not just in clothing or nails, but in makeup as well. Wearing bright shades on the lips is daring, but wearing them on your eyes is even more daring. Unfortunatly it can be tricky not to over due the colour, so hopefully the following ideas will make it a bit easier for you if you want to try being a bit more daring!

Probably the hardest look to pull off would be a bright shade all over the lid. The trick in not over doing the eye makeup is not to extend the colour past your crease. Doing that will make it so when your eye is open it's not over powering.

Used: Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo in Edgy Emerald and Too Cool

Bright lips can be out of some peoples comfort zone, and if you're one of those people I urge you to give it a chance. I feel so empowering when I have a bright lip color on, even if its only going to the grocery store. Although I don't have many bright lipsticks, I invest in brighter ones that I like. Although they aren't an everyday shade, I prefer higher end ones so when they wear away, it to be nice and gradual, not blotchy.

Used: Yves Saint Laurent Lipstick in Rose Paris

Something a bit subtler would to be focusing the colour in the inner corner. It's unique, and eye catching.

Used: Stila 'In The Moment' Palette and Nars Kalahari Trio

This is probably my most worn look, because it can almost be unnoticeable at times so I wear it year round. For the colder months I choose more subtle shades.

Used: Lancome Eye Kohl in Bleu and Nars Kalahari Trio

This is the brightest lip colour that I own, and truthfully I don't pull it out often because I'm scared of it sometimes! Its a true hot pink with blue undertones, which not only make my teeth look slightly yellow, but it's a matte lip shade as well, which shows every imperfection. Speaking of imperfections look at those chapped lips, sorry!

Essie Summer Collection - Bikini So Teeny

Mojito Madness
The colour of grass defiantly what this reminds me of. I understand where they got 'Mojito' from, well I'm assuming the shade of a lime. Then again, I've never had a mojito.

Cascade Cool

Essie describes this as a dusty pink - sure, I can see that. What I personally see is a bubblegum pink with blue undertones. Also, I think I might just have a pink that suits my skin tone, which is harder than you  may think.

All Tied Up

I might just be lending All Tied Up to my grandma. I'm being sarcastic, but this is more of a 'grandma shade' and not something I'd normally wear. With the subtle shimmer to the polish I find it makes it more wearable for any age.

All Tied Up

Bikini So Teeny

I've been waiting to long to find the perfect sky/powder blue nail polish. I had the most excitement for this one and I was a little let down. All of the other nail polishes from the collection had great consistency, and 2 coats was all you needed, but not this one. With the first application I was weary. The polish was runny and streaky. After a few tries, I realized that in order to make the nail polish manageable, each coat needs to dry completely before the second application.

Off The Shoulder

Pinks aren't really a favourite of mine, I've never really liked the colour. I purchased this one to complete the collection, but probably won't use it as much as other shades. As for the shade, it's probably as close to a 'true' pink as I can imagine.

Fear Or Desire

Orange has been every wear lately, and I've been loving it. If I'm not mistaken, I believe this is the third consecutive time in a row Essie has orange in their collection. Guess they gotta follow trends right? I'm glad they have been completely different.

Josie likes them, and I think you will too. :)

What I'm Wearing

Today was a rainy day, I find when there is bad weather, my makeup gets a bit darker. Alas the midtoned amaythast eyes and the berry lips. - okay, the lips aren't darker, but I rarely ever wear a dark shade on my lips.

Don't be makin' fun of my peach fuzz guys! ;)

Top to bottom:
Smashbox Cream Liner Palette (the only pinkish shade - used as base)
Chanel Eyeshadow in Fauve
Smashbox Liner and Chanel Eyeshadow layered

Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Cottage Cheese

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy

Left to Right:
Gosh Eye Brow Pen
Guerlain Highlighter Pen in 00
Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in Siberia

Step 1: I started out with a cleansed face and applied Nars Sheer Glow Foundation (mine was Siberia) I then used Guerlains Highlighing Pen in 00 underneath my eyes, around my nose and any redness that showed through on my face.

Step 2: Other than tweezing my brows (which I need to do) I use my Gosh Eyebrow Pen, which is the best $15 dollars I've probably ever spent. I run this over the arch in my eyebrows to give them more definition or else I look like this -> -.-  Yeah, I pretty much get straight eyebrows.

Step 3: I then apply a eyeshadow base, which I used the cream liner from the Smashbox palette for. Using a fluffy blending brush I feathered out the cream liner so it would be more subtle. On top of the cream liner I applied Chanel Eyeshadow in Fauve.

Step 4: To highlight my eyes to takeaway from the darkness I just applied, I used NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Cottage Cheese to the inner corner, and the brow bone. I blended it out with my finger.

Step 5: Apply your favourite mascara. (at the moment mine is Clinique High Impact)

Step 6: To finish off the look I applied my most used lipstick, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy.

Smashbox's Latest Editions

I often browse the Smashbox counter because it's one of a few higher end brands that are near me. They aren't my favourite brand, but they do have some wonderful items.

The BB Cream ill have to wear a few more times to give my full opinion of it. I am weary of the BB cream, because the others I've tried aren't something I was a fan of

Smashboz Camera Ready BB Cream in Fair
Swatch of the BB Cream (top unblended, bottom blended)
The swatch of the BB cream looks to yellow for my skin tone in, and it is, but it blends nicely into my skin and is hardly noticeable.

The packaging of the new Smashbox Limitless quite appealing to me! It's similar to the Mac Paint Pots, but not as rounded at the edges. The surprising thing was they felt quite heavy in my hand, not so heavy that you're gonna get a workout while applying your eyeshadow though ;) The weight was actually not a problem for me, but made me like the product better, it felt more expensive. - Who doesn't like that right?!

Left: Gemstone, Right: Topaz

Okay, on to the actual product.

The formula is nice, but it's not great. I wore these for about 13 hours without a primer and there was some definite creasing. It honestly wasn't a problem, I expect that, but I don't like that it claimed to wear for 15 hours, when it didn't. Someone with less oily lids *might* actually get it to last 15 hours.

The texture is very nice, the product isn't as pigmented as I was hoping, but overall I think these work great for a sheer-ish colour on the lid, or as a great base for eyeshadow!

Left: Gemstone (doesn't look as red/purple as it should) Right: Topaz

Below is just a little example of how the Limitless Cream Shadows look.

Please don't mind how there is one eye done, and one not... it was quite late at night, and I was going to take it off right away. :)

Exact shade of gemstone, further left.

Exact shade of Topaz, furthest right.

Hi Everyone!

GIVEAWAY!

Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Blam

This is one of my favourite lip balms, incredibly moisturizing and stays on forever! It's also been buzzing around the beauty community lately, so I thought a couple of you might already be interested.

Revlon Creme Blush 200 Flushed

Some of you may have read my last post here and in the comments a few of you had said they were wanting the Flushed shade, and decided to add it.

Stila Kitten Eyeshadow

Ahh, what to say about Kitten, its one of my favourite eye shadows, with probably the best texture I've felt in an eyeshadow. *applause*

Gosh Eyeshadow Trio in Limelight

If you're not familiar with Gosh products, they are a UK brand (I believe) and they are defiantly a brand for someone not wanting to wear a neutral eye all the time. They have bright vivid colours, blend nicely and have a decent wear time.

No7 Total Renewal Micro-dermabrasion Exfoliator

One of my favourite exfoliators, its has very fine micro-exfoliants that are gentle but very effective.

Bourjois 3D Effect Lipgloss in #52

I'm not a big fan of lip glosses, but I know most people do, so I decided to throw one in. Plus, I love Bourjois products!

Stila Vibrant in Vancouver Palette

Stila is one of my favourite brands, and when I seen that they came out with a palette exclusively for British Columbians - yes, that's what we call our selves - I jumped on the chance, since likely, no one else outside of BC will have one.

Smashbox Soft Lights Powder in Shimmer

This is probably the first highlighter I ever purchased and I still love it. Its a subtle glory highlighter that's perfect for every day.

First Impressions: Revlon Photoready Creme Blushes!

I've seen a couple reviews going around on these blushes and I knew I wanted to purchase them after Amarixe reviewed them here.

These probably aren't the newest products to people, but us Canadians just got them! I'm a sucker for any type of blush lately and these are no exception. I picked up two shades, pinched and flushed, which were the only ones left!

Pinched, Flushed
I'm loving the packaging for these, the clear pots with the black lids are so appealing to me. I'm sort of a sucker for packaging, the better the packaging, the more often i'll reach for it.
Flushed
Pinched

The texture of the blushes are creamy, but they aren't to creamy where I think they will slide off the face more easily than a regular creme blush when hit with sweltering heat.

As you can see from the swatches below, they sheer out quite nicely on the cheeks giving a really healthy colour to the skin which is perfect for summer time.

Pinched on the cheeks
Flushed on the cheeks
I think I'll be wearing these for a subtle look on the cheeks, either paired with a bit of mascara and a lip balm, or to finish off a more dramatic look.

As for wearing these on your lips, I wouldn't recommend it, I'm sure if they were okay to wear on the lips, Revlon would defiantly be advertising it.

The only place I've seen them in Canada are in Shoppers Drug Mart, but they are out in the US already.
I'm not sure where else you can purchase them in other parts of the world.

As for the price, I'm honestly not sure, I was so excited that I didn't even glance at the price, but I'm pretty sure they are more expensive that a normal lower end product would be - they are worth it though!

How Much Does Your Face Makeup Cost? $20 Challenge!

Have you ever thought about how much your daily face actually costs? I sure haven't, until now.

Primer: $47 - Stila Perfect and Correct Primer
Foundation: $57 - Stila Perfect and Correct Foundation
Eye Primer: $21 - Mac Painterly Paint Pot
Eyeshadow: $60 - Urban Decay Naked Palette
Lips: $32.50 - Chanel Rouge Coco Shine
Cheeks: $33 - Tarte Amazonian Clay

Total: $250.50

That isn't even including highlighter, powder, lip balm, lip gloss, bronzer, ect. which are all optional things, but if I have the time I will use them.

That's a crazy amount, and not everyone has the money to buy higher end makeup. I use a mixture of high end and low end cosmetics, but above is my go to makeup.

I decided to participate in the $20 challenge not only to challenge myself, but also give people options if they are on a budget.

I recommend trying out the $20 challenge, you might surprise yourself. ;)

 The Products

Covergirl Clean Foundation (no separate picture - sorry!)

I surprisingly didn't mind this foundation, I looked in cover girl first because I know they make light enough shades that won't make me look discoloured. I was pleasantly surprised when I seen that it was on sale as well! It didn't have the greatest staying power on my skin, but honestly nothing does, I have to wear a primer almost always. I'll have to try the foundation out again with a good primer.

Essence Forget it! Concealer

I was quite intrigued when I seen this product, mostly because of the salmon and mustard shades since I like them under my eyes. This product really isn't something I'll reach for again. It's quite creamy - like too creamy, but also too sheer, there isn't much coverage, and it slides right off my face. I'd stay clear of this one.
Don't be deceived by the nice looking swatches!
Essence Lipstick in Coralize Me!

I nice trick that I used to keep the products and cost at a minimum is using a lipstick as a lipstick/cream blush, its a classic trick that I'm guessing more than a few of you know already, you never know though!
Essence Lipstick in Coralize Me!

Swatch of Essence Coralize Me!
Essence Quattro Eyeshadow in To Die For

These eyeshadows are seriously amazing, they are soft, pigmented and blend wonderfully. Caution though, it's quite easy to over blend these eyeshadows so be weary of that.

Essence Quattro Eyeshadow in To Die For

Essence Quattro Eyeshadow in To Die For swatches
Essence Eyeliner Pen (not pictured - again, sorry!)

I don't have the highest hopes for liquid eyeliner that's not higher end, and I wasn't disappointed, but I wouldn't purchase it again either. I was expecting it to be a bit more liquidy so I could use it as a natural looking mascara but it didn't work to well for me. If your looking for a extremely cheap liquid eyeliner, this is the best you'll get!
